The Merlin bird I.D. app has told me a couple of times that we have a Blackcap visiting the garden, but I saw it for the first time today. Sod's law it buggered off before I could get the camera.

We were on the splendidly named Barf today (Half man half dog, I'm my own best friend!), and I'd spotted a couple of these in flight in the distance, but I really wasn't expecting one to pop up about 20 yards away. While I was scrabbling for the 135mm lens that I'd popped in my pocket just in case, there was a *very* peculiar noise just behind me and as the first one took flight a second one scurried across the path about 10 feet behind SWMBO! I got a couple of snaps off - rather small in the frame so I've done my best with it - but here it is. I guess it's breeding season, as their eyebrows were spectacularly red, really lurid and bright. It hung around for some time, so I wonder if it had a brood in the heather nearby? Gilbert! by gray1720, on Flickr

There were 10 Buzzards riding the same thermal over the farm today. I can't recall seeing that many together before. Kites yes, but never Buzzards.

Much as you say we've often seen Kites in that sort of number, especially if someone is feeding them, but I don't think I've ever seen more than two pairs of Buzzards soaring together. As you know, they are much less social.

The way climate change is going unless it's a recent revised edition I'd not take that as gospel.

Somebody has to ask. What did it taste like? Peaty? Hic! BURRRRP! I have actually eaten grouse, though I really can't remember what it tasted like. I have a vague feeling that the proper way is on a piece of toast with the guts in, but I might be getting muddled with woodcock.

Somebody has to ask. What did it taste like? Peaty? The famous one isn't peaty. Black grouse is though.
