Anyone seen any Waxwing? Apparently its a bumper year for them up here. Not seen any myself yet. Not seen any down here yet either. Lots of red berries in my hedge, but I suspect if they do appear that the only sign I'll get is that all my berries will have gone.

Not seen the culprits.

Got some, along with bat bricks, on some recent builds round here where they knocked down an old building. Not seen any on a much larger area of new builds that used to be fields, hedgerows and woodland.

We found that the sparrows nested in ours, but that their brood fledged before the swifts appeared. So two broods from one box, bonus!

Went to Burton Mere (RSPB) today. Pretty quiet but there was a pair of stonechats about. DSCF6674.jpg by Pete, on Flickr Didn't get a good shot of the female which vanished into the trees. DSCF6685.jpg by Pete, on Flickr

The starlings certainly like my rock cakes. I have successfully fed at least 20-30 of them this morning. Very cold and everything frozen here. Shame, as I have a birthday card to post. Ah well.

The Thames may be well up, flooding people out of their homes and closing down businesses, but the local water birds don't seem to care...
