Re:insulation We are detached, we have cavity wall insulation, double glazing and loft insulation to the latest standard. Can someone explain to me why it is impossible to maintain a general temperature of 16°c. Because you set the thermo to 25°? I spoke to a surveyor on the subject of cavity wall insulation back in December. His response was “be very careful” then he explained that it can do more harm than good. So, although you are expecting your walls to prevent heat loss, you could be letting out more than someone without insulation.

Re:insulation We are detached, we have cavity wall insulation, double glazing and loft insulation to the latest standard. Can someone explain to me why it is impossible to maintain a general temperature of 16°c. Service inlets and outlets. Electrical runs. Skirtings. Area spaces between floor levels (ie ceilings). Air bricks allow air into your house. I know, necessary, but it can circulate between external and internal walls and find any way from there into your house to cool it down. I know this well since my gable wall faces South and has many air bricks at different levels.
