Some great shots there, especially like the Lapwing feeding. I'm a bit embarrassed as RSPB Lodmoor is only down the road from me (8 miles) and I still haven't been

Great shots.
Looks like you can get close to the birds unlike some other reserves where you need a telescope or binos?

Great shots. Looks like you can get close to the birds unlike some other reserves where you need a telescope or binos? I was pleasantly surprised how close you could get to the birds. The teal, for instance, were within 10ft at times. The egrets 20ft. Similarly with the snipe. Whilst the main flocks of waders were quite distant, individual birds came close. In places the paths cut through the middle of dense reed beds. I'd gone there having seen some stunning photos of bearded tits on FB. Unfortunately I didn't see any (my wife will argue she spent the afternoon with one ), but I could see the potential. Definitely a place I'll visit again.

That's very close indeed - teal, in my experience, are usually the first species to sod off to the back of the lake when you appear!

It’s been added to my places to visit, thanks.

The other thing I liked was that, unlike other reserves, you aren't restricted to using hides because there aren't any.

Thanks for posting that. We are supposed to be joining some of the kids’ fossil hunting hols at Lyme Regis later this year and I need to get my free bus pass and hop over to Lodmoor while they are a-hunting and a-hammering it is only 50 miles or so.

If we can work it out I would happily pick you up for a days birding whilst you're down in Darzet.
