Now that the BBC is reducing its channels to us standard watchers and going HD, do any of you use Freesat? I do and it is enough for me. I spend most of my time just listening so it's no big deal the picture quality. I see a cheap Manhattan freesat HD box so thought i would buy one soon. Any of you use freesat? Or are you all smart folks?

We don't use it but we did set my mum up with it at one point. She seemed as happy with it as she ever seemed happy about anything.

If my current TV objects, I guess I'll need another one. I've plodded on quite happily for the last few years that I haven't bothered with SKy - but I do miss the world service sky news channel 200 news which has now switched off! Bloomin cheek of the BBC after making me still pay their subscription!

I use Freeview rather than Freesat, but have to use iPlayer if I want BBC 4 in HD, since the local transmitter only does BBC 4 in SD 😡. They do CBBC in HD😡 go figure, as our transatlantic cousins would say.

What's happening, Kate? I've not heard about this. Is it some sort of sinister plot to exclude those of who try not to sell their souls to the commercialism devil?
Is it a case of "If you won't sign up to our fiendish data-harvesting plans, then you must be punished."?

It is moving to HD only, so us still on SD are stuffed and can't get it without an HD box or TV. Yes, we are being punished.

You could also say it is progress and TBF it has been a long time coming, HD has been around for many years. We'd still be using Betamax videos and tin cans and string if they'd stuck with original tech.

Progress would be better class programmes not dumbed down cr rubbish as at present on the BBC.

BBC in SD will still be available via an aerial and set top box. It's only Sky and Freesat that are going HD only. Freesat HD compatible receivers are £30 on Amazon.

Most channels are now transmitted in HD, surely it makes sense to do it all in high definition, as most equipment sold now displays HD and UHD I would have thought.

I should have said that via a dish is the only way I can get a good reception. Aerials are useless due to geography. That's why I went freesat. I used to have Sky but to be honest it was hubby who used that most often.

I think that's one of Rees-Mogg's proposals.

Thanks, Kate. I now have to admit that I have no idea whether our TV is HD or SD.
