Is there ever a case for getting it wrong in camera?

With devil's advocate hat on, some manuals are so badly written or translated that it can absolutely be a better option to ask a bunch of peers how it works. So - that's a group of equally unknowing people then ?

To a newbie we probably, as you say, don't look like a peer group. If someone needs benefit accruing from experience and greater knowledge then asking their peers isn't likely to yield results. Supposing we are a more expert group is of course possibly an error.

Ah right, I was thinking peers in the sense of other folk using the same gear.

Step 1 is indeed reading the manual. I have studied the downloaded manuals of several cameras while deciding which one to buy.

Having once decided upon a camera system the only decision is which body provide the required facilities. As one of my requirements is a built-in grip the choice is resolved rather rapidly.

Is there ever a case for getting it wrong in camera? Obviously it could be claimed that this was intentional and part of an artistic or creative journey. Or perhaps an excuse for spending many happy hours using editing software to try and mimic what would have best been done by 'getting it right in camera'...

Manuals are often pretty obscure when you get a new camera But they are very rarely actually wrong. The more you become familiar with a camera, the more sense the manual makes.

The order of priority has to be: Get in the camera Get it sharp in the frame Get it right in the camera
You can put all the energy you like into getting the exposure right but if the subject is disappearing off the side of the frame who cares if it is beautifully exposed.

Blimey, is that why you like the larger bodies?
