I was due to take my Photography & Wellbeing Group on a local walk on a small peninsnula about a month ago to a trail that's both near to me and which I've never done - for lots of reasons but mainly because I'd have to drive to get there and I prefer to just walk from my house and come back. But anyway. We all arrived at the carpark, got out, were almost blown over with stinging rain stabbing at our eyes and decided that none of us really wanted to be there so we went home, had some hot chocolate and forgave ourselves for being lazy. I rescheduled the walk for today. The last three days have been the kind of beautifully cold crisp days with the River Clyde looking like it's made of turquoise glass tinged with gold and pink that if you tried to paint it would look dreadful but in reality takes your breath away. There have been phone pics of Jack Frost visiting car window screens and beautiful light plastered all over social media. Today? Not so much. All this week: 230119-Henry-Bell-Monument-002 by Kathryn Polley, on Flickr Today: _P9A4568 by Kathryn Polley, on Flickr I mean, on the plus side, we can actually see that there's an other side to the river, which isn't always the case but still. Wellies it is.

We've got feezing frog here, stop moaning! :-P
(not such a bad thing - I've been liberating hazel sticks from some local community woodland - well, I'm local, and community - and no bugger can see me in it!)

I'd love a bit of freezing fog - the shore and the trees along the shore always look beautiful then!

The photo gods love such tricks.
I got special permission to take a small group to 'my' lake on a dragon/damselfly hunt. It turned out to be pretty well the worst day of the summer and we got almost nothing.

Astronomers know all about the weather gods. The number of times cloud rolls in just as you've set up or even an unforecast downpour on your uncovered telescope. And it's a standing joke that buying kit is a signal for weeks of unbroken cloud.

The thing is, your group gets as much from the company, chat and fresh air as they do from the photography. None of your trips are a 'failure' - whatever the weather. Kudos to you.

'My' lake is actually on the estate of some local aristocrat and is used by a fishing syndicate. It has a small hut with tea/coffee facilities to which I have access. Our small group fitted in nicely and we all enjoyed our discussion.
I used to be a fishing member but became better known for having a camera instead of a fishing rod. I resigned as a fisherman but got special permission to retain access for photography.
As an aside i've photographed well over half of the total number of UK Odonata species at that single lake. It's quite a place. Also, because it's private, I feel quite safe carrying expensive gear around there.
