Fire Box

So my first go in the new appraisals.

I drove by this place in the Peak District today and the fire box caught my eye. Unfortunately it was in a secure area with a locked gate with barbed wire surrounding the compound so I couldn't do what I wanted and I only had my phone with me.

A bit similar to what I had in mind but with the added extra of a fence in the way as I couldn't get face on and low. Have I wasted pixels?

Fire box by Nigel G, on FlickrI don't know about the aesthetics, but I do see a halo around the top of the box.
Looking at it further I think that the composition has merit, and the sky is dramatic. I would lose about the bottom third and try to deal with the halo. The fence adds to the image.

Thanks John. I did notice the halo but I considered that as it was so OTT with the processing that it probably made no difference Not sure about losing a 1/3rd off the bottom. Will have to come back and look later. My opinions normally change several times.

If I was going to crop it, I think I'd go for a 5x4 inch crop, keeping the top part but I'm not sure a crop is of much value really. I like it, fence and all.

I like this just as it is - even the halo which just adds to the sheer grittiness of the processing.  Here we are not looking at reality but impression and atmosphere.

I lIke it very much, the halo doesn't bother me and I like the processing.

You are perhaps attracted to fire fighting equipment like a moth to a flame? Maybe could have been your true calling.....😁.

I understand its with your phone and you will have had much more freedom to edit with a file from your main camera but the halo does grate on me a bit. As you can see from the other comments that's just a personal thing.I would maybe have returned (if posible) with a longer lens, I like that patina on the FIRE font a closer shot of that would be nice.

I obviously missed this in Jan. I like it and think the processing suits the inclusion of the fence.
