Went for a stroll this morning in Father Collin's Park. The mallards were actively seeking mates. I caught this one in flight, chasing a female.

Why do all (or a lot of) the attachments get deleted? Jack There is fixed storage allocation so old stuff has to go to make room for new. If everyone posted links to images stored elsewhere (like on Flickr) then this wouldn't be so much a problem. It was discussed a long time ago now but I forget how long attachments are kept.

There's no set time limit. When I get told we're approaching our upload limit I just clear a couple of months worth of the oldest ones. I've only had to do it once in 18 months. If anyone objects to their images being deleted then there are plenty of free hosting sites that you can use to link to.

Photographers, over this way! This cormorant, in my local park, was completely unfazed by humans. I swear, it was directing me

A cormorant has become habituated to humans. Sitting calmly in a busy park, it grooms itself as people walk by!

If it will allow you to approach they do have the most amazing colours if only you can be treated to the head in a good position! This picture looks as if it would have had good colour detail around the face. We get them on the river and sometimes they will perch on the pontoons but I've never seen one on the pavement. I'd guess 10-20 yards is about as close as I've ever got.

Hi Pete, there is good colour in the face, but on this occasion I wanted to emphasise the texture and structure of its feathers, hence the B&W. They must be a lot tamer around our way. I was able to get within 4 metres of it. I think I could have gotten closer, but my lens won't focus that close This is another shot of the same bird, taken on another day, much closer.

I understand the reason for the mono approach. Because they are most often seen at distance, with wings out drying, I think most folk see them as an all black bird which is far from the case. I think this one might be a Juvenile.
