My first ever shot of a Grey Wagtail. Taken today, a dull, damp day. Nikon D810, Nikon 200-500mm f/5.6. Taken at f/5.6, 1/1250, ISO 800. They are lovely aren't they. We have had one fairly regularly visiting the garden the last few winters. They are beautiful. I haven't seen them before. I live in a built up suburban area. The only birds I have seen are sparrows, blue tits, black birds, pigeons, magpies and seagulls. This was on the other side of the city, in a linear park along a good sized river.

This was on the other side of the city, in a linear park along a good sized river. You will usually find them near running water, especially smaller shallower streams with emerging rocks so they can perch close to the surface and catch insects by means of a quick "snatch". Look again later this month when the wagtails are breeding and there are lots of insects over the water. This taken on April 29th 2018 274A5657.jpg by Pete, on Flickr

Sand Martin in flight. I have been trying to get a good shot of one of these in flight. Today is as close as I have come!

Its not the speed that's the problem per se, it's the erratic flight path. That, and the fact that I had VR on "Standard" rather than "Active".

I visited the only Butterfly House left in Ireland (apparently) this afternoon. 20 minutes drive from my house. Entry cost €6.50 (senior) and included entry to the gardens (Malahide Castle & Gardens), just north of the city centre, on the Dart line (electrified suburban rail). Well worth a visit for anyone travelling to Dublin.

Purple Toothwart, I think. A parasitic plant that is apparently quite rare in Scotland. Attachment DeletedNot sure if that is one of the known sites.

You must have been keeping very still! Occasionally they don't run away. I got one a while back in my garden....

Common cotton grass. ...or should be common anyway.
