I wasn't about to say no to cameras and was rather delighted with this haul! She thinks they all work but hasn't tested out the Bilora in a good while - it was an 18th birthday present from her father! I'm wondering how to introduce these to my Photography & Wellbeing Group who largely use their phones. The main purpose of the group is wellbeing through photography, not necessarily how to use a 'proper' camera (please note inverted commas before anyone comments). I'm thinking that I could buy some film online and hand out the cameras to a few members at a time...then take the stuff to develop the film even if we don't have a darkroom to make prints yet. They'd at least get to see the negs. Anyway - I was excited!

The Colorsnap might take 828 film, which is long out of production. Has it got a red window in the back? If so, 828. If not, probably 35mm, though I that model was branded Colorsnap 35.
The Bilora is cute. Happy to talk you through testing it if you aren't sure. I think it might be a 6x6 model, as it says 66 on it, so 12 square exposures to a roll, but Bilora are not a brand I am familiar with.
If your group need digital compacts, I may have a few as SWMBO's parents had a clear out. Holler and I'll test them.

It is indeed a Colorsnap 35 and the owner told me it took 35mm film. The Bilora is German. She told me a story about her dad thinking the Germans did everything better and how he'd had to stop proclaiming their superiority during the war. She was given it on her 18th birthday, which was after the war by then, and he finally felt safe in reiterating his opinions! She also said that you could select the number of shots per roll and that they got smaller and smaller - I think 12 was the largest number/smallest negs. I am struggling to get most of them off their phones at the moment and I do have a couple of digital compacts of my own, plus a couple of small spare DSLRs. I'm inclined to think they might enjoy the novelty of a film camera more than a digital but I'll take them along and see what they think - will bear in mind your kind offer if I think they'd use them!

If you can get a stand rigged up [even a tripod] for a DSLR you can use a light pad thing [forgotten the name] or even a phone set to white screen to photograph the negs. You will need a holder to keep the film flat, but you could cut one out of cardboard - two pieces with a hole in each to fit the neg, then tape them together along top and bottom.

S Thank you for the reminder...I have something like this. I originally made it from a round biscuit tin and fashioned a cardboard film holder...placed it over a light box with the film holder at the bottom and shoved my DSLR with a 100m macro lens into the biscuit tin to take the shot of the negs. Worked well until I ripped the cardboard somehow. I still have the biscuit tin and also now have a neg holder which is not quite the right size so I just need to find a way to attach it to the biscuit tin. Will definitely do this! _I6A4636 by Kath Polley, on Flickr
