I recently received a Nikon 28-100mm lens, which had it's first outing today on my D7000. I had to work out how to use it as I hadn't twigged it had no aperture ring (hey, I've never actually used an autofocus lens on a DSLR, why do you think I use Nikons*?), but I got there! Quite handy on moving objects and by going shutter priority I got a bit of prop blur. I'm happy - thanks, you know who you are! *Other than lugging them round is cheaper than gym fees

That Spitfire has a rather unfortunate number...

The owner hasn't tried it - besides, it has a tractor propellor on it, so it would only go backwards.

Looks like you had a grand day out. I had one of these lenses years ago. Image quality was fine but I was rather less than impressed with the build quality - so much so that I even wrote to Nikon to say so... I suspect I was rather more used to the tank-like build of the old manual lenses.

When you look at the Morris Six you can see how the Morris 1000 came into being can’t you? Natural evolution

They were actually launched at the same Motor Show, Don, in 1948 - as well as the series MO Oxford that the Six was based on. It's got a longer schnozz because it's got a straight six engine under there. It's quite elegant, isn't it?

If optically it's anything like a Tamron 28-200 manual focus I owned and used in the late 1990s, the image quality falls off once you get past 100-130 mm. I still have a decent quality framed 36x24 inch Cibachrome print on my wall, produced from an Ektachrome 200 slide, using that lens at about 40 mm.
