...I worked for a major US corporation and was summoned to HQ to hear what they had planned for Europe. I won't go into detail, but I made myself VERY unpopular indeed by asking if they realized that Europe was a collection of countries with different laws, different cultures and different languages.
Mick To which I suspect the answer was a very veiled NO. And probably a muttered "if Europe ever expects to make anything of itself/ be properly exploitable it needs to sort itself out".

Many years ago, at the end of a job interview, the HR person who had sat silently throughout decided to ask me a question about interests outside of work. He asked my what was the last non-fiction book I had read. My reply confused him, since I had just finished reading a pre-war English translation of Mein Kampf that I had inherited from from an elderly relative, who had purchased new. The manager conducting the interview said something like 'That'll teach you to ask bloody stupid questions'.
I got the job, and thereafter my CV's obligatory 'hobbies and pastimes' section merely stated 'nothing illegal, antisocial or dangerous'. I was never asked to explain this.

Like many others, I went through the 'milk round' during my final year at university. I had lots of interviews, some good, some bad and a few memorable.
After I graduated and had started work, I got a letter from a company that I barely remembered asking why I hadn't turned up for the job!
Apparently, they thought that they had offered me a job. Why they thought I had accepted is beyond me because I got no communication from them and so definitely didn't answer any letter.
I often wondered how they could be so wrong, and how my life might have been very different had I joined them.

I do remember one year when appraisals were done upwardly and our boses heard them at a seminar they attended! I was very honest. We received no feedback however.
