Some piccies from my rebuilt Contax III. TBH a first roll through a camera probaby wasn't the time to try Caffenol for the first time, it's grainier than I hoped, but I'd run out of Rodinal.

Yes they are grainy but there's more than enough evidence of lens quality to suggest it's a cracking bit of kit. Lucky git!

Can't argue with that assessment, Zou! It's the fact that you can see the grain of the wood on that first pic that impressed me when I looked at the scans (also using Vuescan for the first time).
I'll have to try a roll of colour through it and remember to shoot wide open to see if I can get the "Sonnar look" that some people seem to get their knickers in a knot over.

Great pictures Adrian, the Caffenol probably helped with the very contrasty light better than my Xtol stock negatives. I am a bit confused by the phrase I highlighted in bold, Rodinal is not exactly fine grained at normal dilutions.

I was trying caffenol to reduce the grain - I normally use Rodinal as it keeps forever, but it's quite grainy (as you say) on 35mm. Looks lovely on 120, mind. Remember that I am a muddler at heart! Trying to find a recipe from a copy of the cookbook that my laptop doesn't like the format of not helpful either. steveandthedogs - got a page number handy? ETA - the yellow filter probably didn't help with the harsh contrast either!

A CONTAX III with Un-Coated 50mm f1.5 SONNAR was my FIRST 35mm Camera bought in BERLIN when I was a Soldier there in BMH Berlin , for £38 and I had to pay it off in 'Instalments' due to Army Pay as a Private about £3 a week -- not until 1958 when i got Full Corporal was I on £6 15 Shillings a week ( £6.75 P in Decimal Sterling) It was very SOFT at full aperture but I DID use it with Perutz Peromnia film for B7W in the Russian war Memorial Gardens and when I got sent to the 'Safety' of the British Zone to BMH Iserlohn palled up with a Camera Dealer and bought the original AGFA CT18 slide film and used it -- can I show you some snaps from MY CONTAX III Here ? No complaints from me, Pete! They look pretty good, especially considering how long they've been stored.

Great set, Adrian. And you managed to catch Martin looking almost..... "benevolent"!
