It's not like England have a history of thrashing Slovenia. Southgate again proving he is not up to the task of coaching at this level. But Cole Palmer is on, which is possibly already the single best thing Southgate has done at this tournament. ? Where did I get that from, he's still not on. He's on his way, at last.

You've got Gordon, Eze, Watkins on the bench, but no, play for the draw ffs.

I'm going to be controversial here... I'd happily argue that this was a worse performance than Scotland's. At least they have the excuse of being 3rd tier players at best. What's England's excuse?

We have a fine group of exciting young players, however the manager seems to have instilled fear of failure in them, the manager has to let his team play the way they can play not how he wants them to play.

Does anyone think we'll get past the next stage? We're coming home, we're coming home, England's coming home.

Does anyone think we'll get past the next stage? We're coming home, we're coming home, England's coming home. Or conversely do an Italy and scrape through on bare minimum each time before a glorious 1-0 (penalty after 120 minutes of 0-0).

We're crap?... It's hard to work out what goes wrong with England so often at tournaments. Even when we play quite well in qualification, in this case well enough to be considered potential favourites, the moment the tournament arrives the team reverts to 'rabbit in the headlights' mode and run aimlessly about before being run over... It's not helped by what often appears to be a managerial policy of picking players based on who they play for not how they are playing and then playing them out of position...

I'm prepared to let Southgate be if he lets his (and our) team play as they can, do away with the press (no point doing it) and attack!

I'm prepared to let Southgate be if he lets his (and our) team play as they can, do away with the press (no point doing it) and attack! Pressing well is highly effective, especially against teams not comfortable on the ball. But this is the Euros, by definition (most of, cf. Scotland) the teams present are capable of withholding that pressure. What's needed is smarter pressing (not expending energy unnecessarily) or running at parked bus defences to win fouls/get opponents carded. With Gordon, Bowen, Watkins, Eze, and Palmer in the squad, that should be easy to arrange. Southgate's issue is he's set the team up to play one way, and there's no coherent plan b despite having the talent in his squad to find all sorts of solutions. I would be utterly amazed if he ever coaches a top 6 team in any of the top European leagues - he just doesn't seem to have the ability to analyse/adapt.
