I’ve been very generously given a £50 Amazon voucher from my step-daughter. Normally I’d leave it to spend on whatever practical thing we end up needing later on but I actually fancy buying myself something more indulgent for a change. I’m a bit out of practice int hat though! What would you buy?

A camera strap and one or two photo books. I got a simple £15 camera strap from Amazon (a brand I hadn't heard of) a few weeks back and it's great so I'm wanting another for a different camera.

I recently bought a replacement part for my Su sniper camera strap. It works extremely well but is much bulkier than the part it replaced and now my camera doesn’t fit in the bag unless I unscrew the strap first. Which rather defeats the purpose of having a rapid access side pocket on the bag. I may look at alternatives!

Meant to add that yes I did think about photo books. There have been a few that I’ve had in my wish list for a while now.

Something "frivolous"? Something you'd like but haven't been able to justify for the expense? Doesn't have to be something "useful".

I’m a bit out of practice int hat though! What would you buy? What I DID buy with a £35 one I got a few weeks ago was a Holga and a roll of film. Took it out for the first time yesterday on a walk I've not done for 10 years, and really enjoyed looking for compositions that would suit a square frame with lots of vignetting and softness and all the other things I know to expect. As Igot Stravinsky said, “The more constraints one imposes, the more one frees one's self. And the arbitrariness of the constraint serves only to obtain precision of execution.” Wouldn't claim precision of execution for yesterday, but I did find the whole exercise huge fun - until it started raining, anyway.

One of things I plan to get is a carry case so that I'm not lugging the Black Mamba round in an old cardboard box wrapped in bubble wrap (I once returned to the scorebox to find someone idly popping it!) - any bag-related issues other than those above the big river can solve for you?

Part of the fun is learning how your specific one behaves. Mine vignettes stronger in one corner than others, so that can be used creatively.

Kath, in your position I would buy something I want but couldn't normally justify buying. It doesn't need to be useful, decorative or even the full value of the voucher. It does need to cheer you through the next 12 months, or preferably longer.

How about a Barista and Co individual (or small) coffee maker for when you are at work?

Best for good coffee is Hario V60 filter - go stainless steel and you don't even need filter paper. linky

Meant to add that yes I did think about photo books. There have been a few that I’ve had in my wish list for a while now. If you are like me you don’t like spending money on yourself! And as for books they can be so expensive I saw something that I would like last week and it was £89.00 . No way on god’s earth am I ever gonna spend that much money on a book 📕. I immediately dismissed it from my mind and can’t even remember what it was called,,!

I too was given Amazon vouchers for Christmas but I’ve already read the books I bought with them and am now looking for something else to read.
