I'm still running 2 Zoostorm PCs about 8 years old both on Windows 7, only problem I've had not of my own making has been a USB socket. Laptop is a similar age Panasonic Toughbook also running Win 7. No problems with boot delays, I don't shut down the PCs completely, just Sleep, the only delay is waiting for the monitor to power up; added advantageI don't have to keep entering passwords.

Passwords are the bane of my life. Yesterday opening up the old laptop I needed passwords and had to look them up on my iPad. Imagine having to do new passwords for half a dozen programs 😅 my iPad has a record of all my passwords a feature my laptop sadly doesn’t have. Windows is great but Apple seems to be better

Windows is great but Apple seems to be better There are, I believe, commercial password managers for windows. I lost an ipad once. It had been dropped and had skidded under the car in a public car park used also for our hotel. Luckily someone handed it and I got it back sometime (months) later. I was really worried that someone would find it and get into the passwords even though I set up the instructions for it to be wiped remotely should someone manage to connect it to a network.

We needed a lead to connect our external hard drive to the slow laptop. Heather went to Curry’s asked chap he says “you need this” she gets to till girl scans it and says Thirty nine pounds. Heather says No and comes home. I go on Amazon and it’s £6.99 🤔

The latest catch is the requirement for new equipment to have USB-C connections whereas all computers (except Apple) used to have USB-A plug ports. Nearly every USB device I own expects to plug into a USB-A port - even if the device end is A, B or C. I had to buy USB-C to USB-A (female) adaptors for my new computer.

12:30 today the lead is here. I’ve not used it yet but will be using it later when Heather gets home. I hadn’t used the external hard drive for about three years so waiting a few more hours won’t change anything. And it’s saved us THIRTY TWO QUID!!!

I’m writing this on my iPad and it’s great compared with my old Laptop. I wanted to look up some photos from when our grandchildren were younger and I turned the old laptop on……eventually. It takes an absolute age to boot up and then going back through the files took a long time. I haven’t used the laptop for five years and it’s about ten years old now so ancient in computer years. I imagine that my iPad is regarded by many to be old but by comparison to thee olde laptop it’s streets ahead.I didn’t realise how slow my laptop was and when it was new I thought it was fast compared with my older Desktop devices. No real story here just my personal observation on what I experienced today. By the way don’t go looking at old photos it’s the fastest way to get absolutely nothing done in a morning there is. Did any of the advice help with the problem? Just curious.

I’m at a loss what to do with yee olde laptop got to get all the photos off it and onto my iCloud and the speed of the transfer it may take me a lifetime shipping them all out.
