I've been inspired to shoot some more paper negatives and/or Harman direct positive paper. But I don't have a darkroom, a pinsta, or even a room that can be made reliably light tight. But these papers are slow, and development is relatively quick. Just how dark is enough? I do have a safe light (from when the old flat had a perfectly light tight kitchen) and can eliminate all direct light, but not glow from edge of blinds/under the door etc.
It's got to be worth a go, right?

I used to use a dark room that had a leak under the for, and never had any issues, not even the day I dropped a half-loaded film on the floor. I don't know how much leak you are getting from your blinds, but I would give it a go. The duvet darkroom is fine for loading stuff, but gets a bit soggy when you start chucking developer and fix up around.

Piece of cardboard over the window, towel on the floor next to the door and don't worry.

Thinking back to the first project I did at art school (make a pinhole camera, learn to use it, make prints, find exhibition space, find sponsors, invite people and host an opening night in four days) we didn't have a light tight darkroom available. They set up a sort of dark room in another classroom by shutting curtains and then installing a series of those portable clothes racks on wheels. Instead of hanging clothes on them they draped black fabric. It was sufficient to block out the light as other students came in and out of the main door which otherwise would have flooded the room with light from outside. Also, in most college/uni dark rooms there are several stations going at once. The lights from the enlargers would be intermittently going off all around you depending on how busy it was. I think if you are working with film you probably do it to be properly light tight but photographic paper will likely be more flexible in that department.

Get some orange window tinting film, tell the other half it is all the rage in Clerkenwell, all will be good. As a kid I made wooden frames from 3/4 " batons covered in opaque plastic sheet, they fitted in the Kitchen windows and were not too difficult to store as it was a 1850's railway workers' terrace with very small windows.

Not enough space for tray development! And btw I have one for handling large format film already.

Good points all, Zou, but, wow, no power outlet .. although, I guess, one silver lining for the 'sans power outlet' would be no chance of toasters or electrical hair devices slipping into the bath Are there any "darkroom rentals" in the area ? I found this thing ( islanddarkroom.com/tsad-resources ). .. this ( LINK ) Cheers, Jack

You used to be able to get 'safe light bulbs' that fitted into a standard pendent, basically a red light bulb. I doubt you will find one these days and your loo will probably have either LV or LED downlights rendering the good old BC filament lamp useless.
