There is a chap in my Photography & Wellbeing Group who has a number of difficulties in life. I suspect he is on the autistic spectrum among other things because he evidently has a running commentary in his head and is often not really listening to what other people are discussing. He also assumes that if he has heard of/seen/knows about something, that everyone else must as well. This week we were talking about how to be mindful with photography when he suddenly yelled at me 'You know that scene in Scarface, that's what I felt like yesterday'. I had to gently point out that I'd never seen Scarface. Later it was 'You know that scene in Full Metal Jacket...' when I thought we'd moved onto the rule of thirds...anyway it made me realise that there are loads and loads of films I've never seen. What are your favourites or 'you really should have seen's?

The Easy Rider. No book to compare it with, though you could argue it was inspired by the song The Weight (by The Band). One flew over the cuckoo's nest. Great film but the book is slightly better. The man who fell to earth. Unique for me in that I found the book and the film equally good. If I see the movie and read the book I normally prefer the book.
These three all of course share the same theme of alienation from society so you don't necessarilly need to watch all three. The Easy Rider has a brill soundtrack,.

Funeral in Berlin ..... very interesting these days to see what life was like when the wall existed, and the contrast between east and west. Only politicians could have come up with something as ridiculous as the Berlin Wall

I never realised until after he died that my dad got his phrase ‘Do t let the bastards grind you down’ from this film. I took a cinema elective paper at art school and this was o e of the films. Really enjoyed it. Probably time for a rewatch now.

Saturday Night and Sunday Morning...local gritty kitchen sink drama. Very local as filmed less than a mile away. I haven’t heard if that but will see if I can find it somewhere. I had a friend who boarded at my school. Her parents were both in the army stationed in Germany and when she went to visit them she sometimes went to east Berlin. She said she always took a couple of spare pairs of jeans to sell because there was massive demand for them.

The original film of M*A*S*H. Master and Commander - I have read the book, and have the film on DVD...Lord of the Rings ditto. A few weeks ago I picked up the DVD of the 1969 film Battle of Britain; I haven't watched it yet - when my son visits at Easter I'll watch it with him.

Sorry. Relates to Funeral In Berlin.
