Alba IMG_8498edit by Keith Hudson, on Flickr Our recent skiing holiday in Italy was in Sud Tirol or Bolzano which is now an autonomous province and was much fought over in the wars between Italy and Austria. The place has a very interesting history you can ski from a German speaking village to an Italian speaking village in under fifteen minutes further confusing things over 70% of the population have Ladin as their first language. I posted this one on FB, our airport transport was the local ice hockey team bus. Hockey Bus IMG_8570edit by Keith Hudson, on Flickr

Against all odds, putting political into Flickr search on my photos scored a hit. Apparently the foreground/centrepiece is a monument to the political martyrs movement. DSCF2830.jpg by Pete, on Flickr

Not a serious contribution. I found that I actually used the word 'spindly' on Flickr when moaning a bit about the winter garden planting at Bodnant. These very spindly shrubs are planted at the top and ruin any attempt at photographing the garden from arguably its best viewpoint. They've grown a bit now but the direct path has neen cordoned off for a while so I don't have a more modern picture. These in 2018. Unwelcome spindly photo-interruption. 274A5232.jpg by Pete, on Flickr

I often think that the Greenwich cable car supports look a bit spindly compared to the ones we see when skiing. North Greenwich 2023-10-01-0011edit by Keith Hudson, on Flickr I guess at sea level in the UK they have less wind and thermal stresses to deal with.

I was minded by Keith's post to look at Morden Hall Park. Here is a Maple making a Scots Pine look small and feeble DSCF0629.jpg by Pete, on Flickr But it is all in the eye of the beholder behind a wide-angle lens. From the other side the Scots Pine doesn't look quite so spindly DSCF0630.jpg by Pete, on Flickr

Usually if I take a picture of anything thin and stick-like then it will have a bird on top. I must have been trying to be arty here. Backlit bullrushes at Burton Mere last December DSCF6689-Enhanced-NR.jpg by Pete, on Flickr
