Ringo is in fact a very respected drummer. He is highly thought of because he's a southpaw, which gives his drumming a wholly (to the uneducated ear) different sound to other British drummers from that era, though Tony Meehan (ex Shadow) would also be able to claim worshipfulness...

In one of the Beatles Movies, might have been a hard days night, in the final scene on stage the mix had John and George singing and the only instruments you could hear were Ringo and Paul. John and Geraorge's guitar playing were obviously deemed irrelevant. I do not consider Rngo's (new to me) left handedness being remotely relevant to his place in musical history. He is respected as F***** good drummer.

I remember one of the Beatles being interviewed. He said, "Ringo isn't the best drummer in the world. In fact, he's not the best drummer in the Beatles".
