A Happy Christmas to all!! We got close to a foot of snow here last night so the mornings project after I phone and wish my siblings a happy Christmas will be clearing the driveway. Then I'm off to drop off gifts for the grandchildren. Then I am going to cook something simple for my girl and I and have a relaxing evening.

Merry Christmas! You've reminded me that I need to facetime my brother in Perth and time it so I'm awake but he's not too tiddly! I expect that's Perth in Australia but got a chuckle out of thinking it was Perth in Scotland requiring good timing.

Mind you, those East-Coasters...can't trust them not to be pickled by breakfast!

The lamb leg, in the roasting dish, coming up to room temperature. It'll be in the oven in an hour and a half. View AttachmentIs lamb the traditional Christmas meal in NZ? We considered lamb this year given the price of turkeys. Waitrose were selling large bronze turkeys for Ā£110 on Friday. The supermarket sells a lot of hams at Christmas, and there must have been turkeys there too, but I didn't see them. A whole ham is too much when there's only 3 of us - it goes on forever - and I don't like turkey. A lot of people go camping at Christmas - they will usually have something barbecued. What I'm saying is that there no longer is a traditional Christmas meal, and we're finally getting away from weird midwinter ideas for Christmas.

Some of your neighbours still inside on celebrating in June at resorts in the Blue Mountains. I remember it being chilly there, even though it was temperate on the coast. Iād settle for a warm Christmas. I agree you can keep Turkey, never had one that wasnāt dry, Leg of Lamb sounds perfect.

I agree you can keep Turkey, never had one that wasnāt dry, Leg of Lamb sounds perfect. Ha! Lack of culinary expertise. Brine it for at least 24 hours in ice water and then cook it inverted for the first half of the cooking time. My turkeys are famed for their juiceyness.

Iāve never been responsible for cooking one, there being only two of us I think it unlikely that we will want a whole Turkey any time soon. However thanks for the tip (actually Iād rather have Duck).

I am minded of the recipe for Capercaillie. Bury the bird along side an old boot. After three months dig up and cook the old boot.

Jack, maybe you can start a campaign to have YVR renamed to YNF?? (Why No Fun)
My Christmas day was a bit of a disaster but my mum (aged 90 and suffering from Alzheimers and Dementia) enjoyed it, and that's what really mattered. Season's Greetings everyone
