We all know that vintage cameras are fun. Using a fifty year old TLR gives me great enjoyment and the pleasure of the mechanical workings is impressive but I’ve just been reading about Vintage Digital Cameras on the AP website. amateurphotographer.com/second-hand/vintage-digital-cameras-you-should-actually-buy/and they give a list of these VINTAGE beauties that you should buy. I checked out one Fujifilm F31fd on eBay and could buy it for 99p it has got one bid and postage is £6.99 so if you wanna start collecting head on over to eBay. I’m not sure if I want to start collecting something that I still regard as brand new. Once again I’m just back from the rabbit hole I went down on the internet I clicked on a DP Review of the F31fd from 2007 and it reads like it was a pretty big deal in that year. Cameras have traveled a long distance since then.. I’m confused by collecting something so recent bu the you’ve only gotta look at Pokémon cards trading for millions

"should" anything is daft. The magazine even had an article the other week about deliberately ruining photographs to simulate things like light leaks on film. There's usually one letter to the editor on the broadly along the lines of .. my old camera's still good enough for me...

In my mind it is not anywhere near like some of the digital recreation of the look of certain films. I can’t for the life of me remember the name of one of those films that were made to look warm and cozy but light leaks is IMHO stupid

I've no problem with vintage digital, and I still use a very old 5MP Lumix from time to time when I need its 400mm+ equivalent lens.
The main problems are the batteries are likely goosed, with little capacity remaining and few spares available, and also trying to find small enough memory cards can be challenging! That Lumix doesn't take anything over 2GB.

My son and his friends are into the retro digital look, the early Sony cameras with a form factor similar to a disc camera seem very 'collectable' as in you can collect all three or four colourways of the same camera. They also love the 3 / 4 mp images as a digital lomo look.

A bit more recent than the ones featured, but I am still using a Nikon D200 and Canon G10 (they don't even fight!), both circa 2008, and I have a 3.3mp Nikon that I've used on occasion.

Before my trip I was considering getting a kids' camera that prints images in black and white on a thermal roll. Really lo-fi but I've seen some examples of it used really well, and who wouldn't want to carry a bright green dinosaur-shaped camera around their neck?

A G10 surely isn't vintage. I gave mine to my grandson. I used it when I was travelling on business and needed something small. I'm often surprised at how well the images scrub up. I was recently looking at images made with my 2009 Coolpix S640 (now deceased) and whilst they exhibit quite a lot of noise and fringing, at web sizes they look quite fine with a little help from Lightroom (e.g. desaturating the colour of the noise, CA removal, etc.).
