I did once intend to set up the laundry so I could use it as a darkroom, but didn't quite get there. My film scanner compensates for that. I load the films into the developing tank in a dark bag, so processing is done in the light. Speaking of daylight film processing, John, in my last few years of photo retail, I/we, the shop, sold a number of these ITEMS. Have you ever considered one of these? Cheers, Jack No, Jack. I've seen them advertised, and the older Agfa daylight processor, but until now I've managed with a dark bag and a daylight tank.

I am sure at some time in the past we had one of the Agfa daylight 35mm tanks, either my imagination or Dad chucked it out as I did not find it when I cleared his house.

I'm much better at collecting developing tanks than using them! I have 3 or 4 of the taller multiple 35mm tanks(a mix of Johnson's & Paterson designs) an old 1/4 plate tank (a square tinplate Dallan) & now a proper 5x4 Tank (also Dallan). I have process a couple of sheets of 5x4 direct positive paper in the 1/4 plate tank (just about usable 1 sheet at a time, but far from ideal). The larger tank only arrived a little over a week ago, so hopefully I'll give it some use in the spring... Traditional photographic processing is quite new to me, although my first job included using a huge artwork camera & processing prints in a darkroom - this was using a process called photomechanical transfer (PMT to it's friends at the time).

Last year I bought more ways of processing 54 sheet film than I shot sheets of 54 film. I added a Stearman and a Mod54 to keep the existing Combi plan company, did I use any of them? No.

No. Can I have the Stearman please? I've been holding off buying a bigger Paterson tank and Mod54 and in the meanwhile became aware of the Stearman, which seems like the better solution. The 'bank manager' hasn't yet authorised any new photographic purchases though... A 5x4 processing solution is the one thing stopping me from shooting 5x4 regularly, I just cannot afford to develop the film unless DIY.

I very much doubt I've anything of suitable value to swap with anyway. Where did you get the Stearman?

At the risk of incurring wrath, surely PMT doesn't have any friends... That was why I made a point of spelling it out first. My darkroom experience was about 35 years ago, when today use of the abbreviation wasn't so common. I suppose it might also be why the technique went out of fashion (though a switch to digital processing is far more likely)
