Bloody phone! Ah well, can't blame productive toast for that. When typing on my phone at home I use a Logitech K380 Bluetooth keyboard. I had problems with special characters in the early days but then found a way of key mapping. Sadly I have forgotten how I did that. My phone is Android. Some people seem surprised that Android actually comes with drivers for Bluetooth keyboards and mice. I believe you can also plug one or t'other into the USB socket.

A few weeks ago I did, in fact, buy some new astro kit. A camera and filters, but I doubt if anyone would be familiar with them.
A ZWO ASI 533 mono, 3009 px and 11.3mm square, and a set of Baader Bessel photometric filters. Since then the weather has been dire, the new kit curse.

I’m familiar 😂👍🏻 The ZWO was in my eBay watchlist Thought it looked cool until I realised it would never ever see use 😂 Son (16) gone to a New Year’s Eve party in fancy dress Asked me to take a shot of him with his friends before they left, cameras were all tucked away.. Grabbed a torch lit then from underneath and switched off the lights, the iPhone locked onto all their faces… took less than 20secs He’s at the party, messaged me asking for the shots, sent instantly, they are now doing the rounds on his SM I think I’m just kidding myself with proper cameras - phones are definitely the way forward for 90% of what I take. 2024 will be a year of change for me

I guess I'm guilty of using my phone far more than a "real" camera, simply because it's always with me, easy to grab and get a photo, even if it's nothing worth printing and framing.

I’ve tried to replicate it on my canon bodies, not even close. For me silvertone turns a phone into a poor man’s Leica, your subject takes on an almost ethereal quality. Just beautiful. I need to let go and embrace the new methods of image capture…..and more importantly take it serious and not treat it as inferior or gimmicky. It’s frankly amazing.

I suppose the name Instagram sort of gives it away 🤔🤣

I think it’s the sense of realism I miss The novelty of EVERYTHING being super super sharp and contrasty has gotten old. Everything just looks like “pack shots”
Eye focus is amazing, banging off 40 frames per second and selecting that 1/40th of a second shot where everything came together just doesn’t do it for me these days. Definitely getting more jaded as I age.

It was the missing out on a bargain that was my weakness But I’m at saturation point. I’m done with it. No more. Feels great. The mirrorless movement has unintentionally provided the perfect cut off point to simply turn my back. Any one of my cameras can take pictures, even my phone. I’m just not buying into the hype no more. Looking forward to new challenges in 2024

Well as an ex FRAS, BAA, Committee Member of three Astro Societies, planner of astro conventions and seasoned observer, (With Filters lol) two things made me give it all up and sell the kit. 1. Reading so many reports on how the UK was getting more cloudy and unpredictable weather wise. 2. Cancer & two stem cell transplants did sadly mean for me that I could no longer stand the cold and damp at night observing.
