I should really replace my Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX100, but I just can't decide on what. ... with another one. I've just picked up a used one off a reputable place that has real shops as well as an internet presence; £250 including the separate small flash gun, looks in almost new condition and it came with the original box (but not the instructions, sadly, although these tend to be available on the web anyway). They are usually advertised for a lot more. Great piece of kit and it's hard to find anything better for the money (imho); you could look at the G100 with kit lens but the LX100 has such a fast lens fitted that there's nothing else in MFT that comes close unless you find the zoom range too restricting

kate: Full disclosure... my previous post was an instance of complete hypocrisy on my part.

No more astronomy equipment buying ever, there's just no point with our rubbish weather. Made me LOL 😂 I went through a phase about 4/5yrs ago Have 6 telescopes in the loft and a box FULL of EP’s, Prisms, Right Angles, Barlow’s, Camera adapters etc etc etc Just tons of the stuff Never dawned on me just how bloody cold it gets on clear winter nights 🥶 Jesus!!! But they were far and few between, light pollution, cloudy skies etc etc Hence a loft stuffed with Astro gear 😂

USE IT UP WEAR IT OUT MAKE IT DO OR DO WITHOUT That’s become my mantra, to hell with consumerism 😂 You could let someone else wear it out. I admit that I have hoarded old useable gear but am now slowly unloading it. Some sold and some given away. Does anyone know where I can get sticky Nikon plastic covering replaced or even the materials to do it myself?

Does it clean up with alcohol? Obviously not your usual tipple.

I used to be generous to a fault, gave away lots and lots of things…very expensive things. Unfortunately some took the proverbial… Now I give nothing….absolutely nothing. As for selling.. Yes, at some point it will all go We are not the pharaohs, just mere passing custodians. I’m acutely aware of that Hence my binge buying has come to a somewhat abrupt end, but this is the only way it could end. Funny, because I know deep down it’s already over- the buying spree has gone. I am resolute What changed??? Probably canon ramming the R system down canon users throats. I invested heavily in the M system, they then discontinued it despite being canons biggest seller. I can’t be bothered starting with a different system My existing canon gear is going nowhere So I’ve decided to stop buying altogether, canon discontinued the ef line, the ef-s line and the ef-m line. I had bought into all 3 systems. Never again Should something break I’ll decide whether to bin or repair But won’t replace That’s a dead cert. Sorry if the thread has suddenly gone serious.

Stop giving herself ideas! Which would be harder to part with, instruments or cameras?

Stop giving herself ideas! Which would be harder to part with, instruments or cameras? Camera's are mass produced and easilly replaceable - at least the ones I have are. Most of my instruments are one offs or limiteds and not easilly replaceable including the Eastman Pagelli handmade in a Bejing factory. I could order another, at a cost mine is second hand, but it would have a very different character. Might be better, might be worse but it would be different.

I should really replace my Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX100, but I just can't decide on what. Why? If it does what you want, the decision is easy.

Though I was flippant earlier in the thread, I sympathise. It's too easy to chase "the image". I'm settled with a 10 year old dslr, a now discontinued eos-m and a Sony bridge. Hopefully they will survive the year, and hopefully so will I.

I’ve just made a vow not to buy ANY photo gear throughout 2024 Reckon the self discipline will do me good. Just told my partner of 27yrs…. Her jaw literally hit the floor Not sure if that pleases me or makes me feel guilty Hence, I’m sticking to my guns. There’s a clause The vow doesn’t cover cards/batteries or repairs. Anybody else dare to join me 😂 Easy - I have been doing this since I purchased my last lens in 2015. Since then I have had to replace one folding rubber lens hood, but otherwise I have purchased no other hardware. Perhaps I'm fortunate that the kind of subjects I like don't require regular new equipment upgrades. My entire photographic expenditure in 2023 consists of: My AP subscription (£102). Three 60x40 cm frames and three CEWE prints to fit them (about £80). My annual December order from CEWE - two A2 calendars, one small 'kitchen calendar' for appointments and ten Christmas cards of which we only needed eight (about £100). I hadn't realised I had spent so much, but the three new 60x40 cm frames and prints to fit them were an exceptional expenditure. Also, having to replace eight windows and repair the car's suspension has also been an incentive...

Does it clean up with alcohol? Obviously not your usual tipple. I cleaned off the sticky surface on a Nikon F100 last night with some Isopropyl alcohol ( IPA ) and a piece of course cloth . Only took a few minutes. I've done the same with several Minolta Dynax 7's and some Canon SLRs .
