You know my alarm signal was bleeping at me the other day? My neighbour was getting a linked alarm system installed and it seems when he tested it, my system bleeped at me at the same time.
However, my neighbour said something that made me wonder. Is it possible that the signal was picked up by my radio aerial for my DAB radio and I heard it that way? Or is that rubbish?

I have no idea, but given the apparently narrow range of bandwidths used by radios/ wifi/ mobile phones etc., I wouldn't be surprised. No doubt someone will come along and tell me I'm talking bollox

Its unlikely that your radio has anything to do with it. Is your linked system linked with wires or is it it wireless? Is your neighbour's linked system linked with wires or is it it wireless? If yes to both questions then both systems may have used the same channels and codes. Most manufacturers of wireless door bells use a very limited number of channels and codes. These are distributed randomly. Very occasionally cross system interference occurs. Maybe linked fire alarm systems have the same problem.

That certainly sounds more likely than a DAB radio picking up the signal. I know that the license free band for radio mics and in-ear monitoring is very crowded around here, so much so that we use a 600Mhz radio mic system, with a license. There simply isn’t enough bandwidth to go around so interference, such as Kate is suffering, isn’t uncommon especially with licence free systems. Kate, if you test your system does your neighbour’s alarm sound?

What sort of alarm system? Personal panic alarm, burglar alarm, some other form of alarm?

What sort of alarm system? Personal panic alarm, burglar alarm, some other form of alarm? Linked alarm system in house re smoke, heat carbon monoxide. Aico system (mine). It connects via radio signals - one goes off they all go off.

Having looked up the Aico set up, you have to insert a small screwdriver into the setup switch to link them, within 30 minutes or they will drop out of setup mode.
So it looks like a coincidence that your alarms sounded when your neighbour's house was been worked on.

Surely if a radio signal is what links them, it could have been picked up by my system?

Would have thought if the neighbour's system was set to the same frquency as your then they would pick up each others warning cries without any active attempt at syncing.

WHS and M&S have different security systems, but I still managed to set them both off with the same piece of (M&S!) steak the other day.
Mind you, the M&S alarm went off recently when five of us went through it together. On the way in...

When our kids were a lot younger and we used a baby monitor in the evenings we once got "Interference" from another alarm with sounds of a baby crying. So someone nearby must have bought an identical system and had it set to the same channel. Usually there is a selector switch somewhere so you can adjust the channel to prevent this type of interference. It could just be that your near-neighbour's system works on the same frequency as yours; did you speak to him/her or their installer when you noticed the problem, and ask if they could change the channel? Have you had any repeat occurrences subsequently?

For some odd reason, and according to the security guy, lightbulbs set off our Tesco alarm system in the same way as an "tagged" article without the tag removed. How we laughed.
