I have been playing with the idea of emulating a panoramic camera using the Leica M 240 and a C/Y 18mm Distagon. By using the info button to bring up the on screen top and bottom menus I can approximate the 13mm x 36mm format of a 35mm disposable camera so I set off to Nunhead Cemetery to take a few pictures of fixed height objects. As an experiment I think it worked but I want a wider angle lens to do similar images in narrow streets, I am thinking a 15mm or even 10mm Voigtlander would get me closer to what I want. Nunhead L1000366PanEdit by Keith Hudson, on Flickr The aspect ratio though the same as the other two looks thinner, which is odd. I might need a Horizon or the previously mentioned disposable camera to compare.

zou (?) thank you for moving the post and correcting the thread title. Just to keep things together I will re post the pic of the Halina Panorama which we used as an upgrade to the disposable panoramic cameras back in pre (affordable) digital days. Halina Panoramic IMG_8319sm by Keith Hudson, on Flickr Now loaded with Fuji Superia 400, not expecting much from essentially a toy camera other than a bit of fun.

I'm mostly on the forum on my mobile so rarely see admin requests unless on desktop.

Experiments with the xpan look are turning out to be challenging to compose with. You'll get used to it. It'll take a while to reprogram yourself to just see the area you want. It'll become 'normal' eventually

This is where the loss of the old forum is such a drag - Brian used to occasionally post really nice stuff taken with a super-wide lens on his iPhone.

This one I made a few years ago whilst experimenting with cropping a standard 1.5x1 frame to 2.75x1. It's not very good technically, having been shot at the long end of a Tamron 18-250, but I like the result. It's a shot of Venice from one of the nearby islands.

Yes Brian was one of my influences both in using my phone more as a camera and in wanting to go wider than 11mm on APSC. His interest and skill in mono conversions from the iPhone is still something I aspire to not to mention his work with the Leica Q2, it is inevitable that one day I will buy a monochrome Leica just not yet.

Reviving the thread to say that this morning I had a stroll with my S5 set to xpan crop and 'Leica' monochrome profile. This shows the xpan crop in the viewfinder rather than just overlaying a grid or frame, but as I'm shooting raw+jpg the jpg is cropped whilst the raw still records full frame, but it's tagged so that Lr opens it cropped. The S5 was wearing my Pentax 35/2 and it was interesting to see just how tight that crop is. I was walking along the coast path so not a tight urban environment, and was with practice able to compose reasonably well I think, but it's definitely something to work on. Will drop some pictures in if you are ok with that zx9 ?

I did shoot a roll of Fujicolour in the Halina toy camera but never got to see the results as it was one of the three films that suffered from CD failure in the C41 processing kit. I did loose heart a bit but will hopefully finish the next film in it on Saturday when we meet up in Salisbury.

I couldn't find a picture I was thinking of for yesterday's daily theme "flat" but had another look today and decided to try the XPAN crop ratio on it. Usually for panoramas I take [hand held] overlapping frames, stitch them and then crop to 16:9. This is almost the full frame width, I did some perspective correction which squeezed the bottom in "as shot". Would have been good to have been able to use a bit of tilt 274A0781.jpg by Pete, on Flickr
