P.S. The only reason I'm bothered (well,I'm not, really...) is that I think anyone with any interest in L series Prakticas really should have one of the VLC models, even if they have an RTL 1000, from both an academic and user point of view (the detail differences fascinate me). I really enjoy these cameras, with oddly the LB/LB2 being probably my next favourite, but I do like the fact that you can get a complete series for very little money, and particularly one that displays clear market segmentation within a consistent overall approach. I've not seen a VLC for sale, here. I have a VLC2...the usual Praktica L series seen here are the stop down metering versions. There are few LLC or PLCs about. The UK was I think the biggest Western market for Praktica, so there's not much of a shortage of most models - except the DTL3 and DTL5, which were never officially imported, I believe.

Hmm, interesting - it works up to 24, then stops. Maybe 36-exposure films give it indigestion?

Which of course made me search, and I've just had a courier deliver a box containing a DTL3 and a zebra Tessar, for £25 posted. I wanted the Tessar anyway for something else... The DTLs had LED meter indicators instead of a needle. In the case of the DTL3, it makes for an interesting hybrid, looking part MTL3, part PLC3* - it has the meter actuating switch as it's a stop-down model, but the battery compartment for a PX21 and a switch around the rewind knob that looks a bit like the full aperture/stop down metering switch of the PLC3, but that is actually a battery check switch with a nearby LED indicator. In the viewfinder are four LEDs as metering indicators. Have to dig out one of my PX21 converters and give it a go. The DTL5 is I believe a lot less interesting - basically an MTL50 with a horizontal split image focusing screen instead of a diagonal one. As long as the meter works, I'll be a happy bunny - everything else seems to. * Or indeed an LTL/LLC hybrid, but with Series 3 accents such as bobbly body cover and the plastic winder tip, and the later shutter release button.
