A grey morning, this morning, with light drizzle - although this afternoon should be fine. All the surface water is gone. Oh I am pleased to hear that!

A picture from the local newspaper - sightseers have been causing problems driving down flooded roads - this is the solution

We took a stroll round the neighbourhood today. Down the street the soldiers above were guarding, we passed 2 houses which flooded in 2015, and which look to have flooded this time too. One had a pile of wet carpet and underlay in the driveway - the carpet would have been new after the last flood.

My sister and brother-in-law live in Jacksonville. They often miss the worst of the hurricanes but this one might get a bit too close for comfort. I must send them an email before any disruption.

Get ready. It's coming from the North WEst. The clouds are moving and the temperature has dropped. It's going to be freezing!

Between the rain and the wind I've been bussing to work this week but tomorrow should be back on the bike. Forecast suggests maybe 3° (feels like 0°) but low humidity so no ice likely, and just gentle breeze, so it should be nice enough.

Yesterday had me breaking out the waterproof trousers and thinking I should put sintered brake pads on my work bike so the brakes work when it's so wet.

I’ve had an email from my sister and the hurricane is due to pass to the south of where she lives, but the worry is a storm surge of 6 feet as she is just a few hundred yards from the St John’s river. Apparently, rain in central Florida flows into this river, and like a lot of the UK, the ground is saturated due to plenty of rain recently. Her husband has been busy baking bread and making pies in case they lose power.

The BBC weather forecast for my part of the country says “Hurricane force winds” with speeds of 360 from 045 degrees. The Met Office says 6mph from 315 degrees. I’m rather hoping the BBC are wrong.

Locally, our winds are shown on the BBC in excess of 7,000mph!
