Here we are - the beauty photograph of the camera. The replacement leatherette is fitted, the shutter is working, the rangefinder is clean and accurate. I have cleaned up the camera as far as possible, but none of the spare rewind shafts I have fit, the filter ring is too battered to fix, and the lens front element has haze, like a network of fine scratches. I could replace the filter ring with one from a YK or YL, and some YL cameras have the same lens as this one, but they are almost as rare as Yashica 35s. The rewind shaft from a YK could fit the camera.

Very impressive, John.
You did a remarkable job with what you were given to you, having taken on this project was an enormous task and not for the faint-at-heart. Even with the YK rewind shaft, it would still be your own camera that stands out from the crowd, FWIW I say go ahead and use the YK filter ring.
Cheers, Simon.

I have to find a YK, first, Simon - they don't come up for sale often here.

I'm watching an auction for a Yashica J camera, one version of which has the same lens barrel as the YK (the other version is the same shutter and lens as the YK, but in a silver coloured barrel).

Then, when you've cannibalised that to fix the YK, you'll need to find another J for parts to fix the J, then....

Oh, I know all about GAS. The missus has threatened to flare me off like an oil rig.

That reads like one of your rather dodgy euphemisms, Adrian.

I won the auction for the Yashica J - I'll soon see if I'm right about the parts that might fit the 35.

The Yashica 35 with its donated lens tube, and an unhappy J wearing the old one. I still need to find a rewind shaft and knob - it looks like the shaft in the J has to be removed with the bush it fits in.
