I was able to apply a small amount of rubbing alcohol on to a cotton swab and proceeded cleaned the viewfinder on the chrome body KX from the outside by turning the cotton swab over to the dry end I managed to wipe off the excess alcohol, that got rid of years of grime and debris. Good job. I think one of the reasons I've never really loved DSLRs is the dim viewfinders compared to the old school manual focus ones. Such a joy to use.

Here is Serial Number 8022175: In this image of my Pentax KX doesn't appear to be as shiny as the black body KX, however when compared to the original image of the old chrome top plate that I first posted on October 6th. It is the difference between night and day; the minor fungus inside the viewfinder, I can live with it but the option to either have cleaned or replaced would be another matter down the road. At the moment, I am ecstatic to have both my cameras back into my possession just in time for the relaunch of Pentax film cameras in early-mid 2024.

No, you're eyes are not deceiving you...what you're looking at is the special order model of the Asahi Pentax KX that features a 250 exposure magazine back and a motordrive, when new. With Christmas just around the corner, there is only one currently available on E-bay...

I take it you would have to load it yourself from a big roll of film? And develop it yourself too?
Were films that size ever available?

According to Zou, a hipster premium K-1000 for £350 ($594.02 Canadian Dollars). For additional £120.08 more, you too could own this Spotmatic with motordrive that includes the SMC Takumar 50mm f1.4 lens before shipping £470.08, which translates to a meager $797.43 Canadian Dollars (shipping is $92.39 extra)...

The later version of the K-1000 shown in the link, is Assembled in Hong Kong. Otherwise the back of the top plate on the right side would have read: Asahi Opt. Co. Japan, these camera was manufactured from 1978-90 and the Made in China until 1997 have plastic chrome top and bottom, think of later versions of the Canon AE-1.

My Final Thoughts:
You know that you've bought the right camera when there are no feelings of having second thoughts, no regret over buyer's remorse or the sheer guilt of paying too much, for what it is actually worth. This is the first time in a very long time, that I didn't feel this way. There are couple of reasons I could think of - is because I didn't have high expectations to begin with and that I sought out a pair of cameras that intrigued me; just to see if I would enjoy owning. Asahi Pentax back in the mid-1970's had made some very decent camera bodies and lenses, that in today's second hand market; it is one of the most sought after camera brands. Ask anyone in any camera swap meet or at your local photo-club, that many folks started off with an Asahi Pentax S1a, S3, SV, Spotmatic, KM, KX, K2 etc. and the sentimentality for the brand brings a sense of fond nostalgic memories. This time around, it did for me as I look at my chrome KX laying on it's back, while I'm writing this. As I fondly remember my very first Spotmatic SP-1000, from 34 years ago. In those days, an used Asahi Pentax KX in chrome still commanded the $250.95 add another $199.95 for the SMC Pentax 50mm f1.4 lens in Canadian Dollars, it still commands the same price over three decades later, if you know where to look. I really can't think of another brand of 35mm film cameras, that has the same hold on photographers with varying degree of skills. There is a camera out there for you. Pentax had definitely got this segment cornered to their advantage, even though their marketing strategy was questionable but you can't really fault them for that.

Happy New Year,
Another year has come and gone, I am wishing everyone all the best for 2024.
Just a bit of an update, as of December 12th the chrome body Asahi Pentax KX serial number 8022175 has gone to a good home, where the new owner will carry out the replacement of the viewfinder prism. I kept the black body Pentax KX, the spare SMC Pentax-K 50mm f1.4 lens, a spare Pentax leather neck strap and the Soligor 500mm f8 C/D reflex lens, I haven't thought of what to purchase since selling the other camera. It will be a Pentax, possibility of a MX with winder that includes the SMC Pentax-M 40mm f2.8 or another black body KX to match the one I got.
Who knows.
