In the village we are getting 2 storeys of flats built over retail units built over a basement car park with charging points. Some folk dealing with salvage electric cars park them 50 feet apart and some manufacturers have suggested it too when there have been problems they want to address. Not that they are necessarily more likely to catch fire than ICE cars but when they do it's much more of a problem.... cobalt poisoning, for example. Being in the same building as EVs charging seems risky. Perhaps the building will be more expensive to insure?

I was confident that - in those circumstances - you would have followed the correct procedure, Lesley.

I was confident that - in those circumstances - you would have followed the correct procedure, Lesley. Bog standard fire etc. instructions "When evacuating the premises ensure that you have only your essential items with you" Some years ago the building in which I worked, and in which Kate had previously worked, was being refurbished. The builders were experts at setting of the fire alarm, conveniently, at around 3:00 in the afternoon. After a couple of instances I decided to use a different car park and was able to avoid the protracted wait to be let back in, and the traffic, by ending my working day whenever the alarm was activated. Obviously I reported my departure to a fire warden. The result was that I got home early enough to get a couple of hours work done without interruption. Many of my colleagues had delayed departures because the offices were on top of the car park, access to which was denied by the fire alarm.

If it's the building I'm thinking of, when I was in it (on the 10th floor) we didn't need builders to set off the alarms - the the guys in the workshops on the ground floor were pretty good at doing that.

I think that problem was solved, possibly by doing away with the workshops, we’ll not go there. The 10th floor was refurbished, we moved up from the 9th and then that was refurbished as was the second floor (last one below the car park). I think it was that one that caused the problems. The windows on the 10th floor needed to be replaced back in 2015 but the cost was enormous, they probably still need replacing.
