I would say that if you're writing for people whose first language isn't English then use the formal grammar that they might have learnt in class.

The questions, as my Belgian customer told me, are often about ancient history that I suspect none of us were taught in school (she was schooled in the UK). I got some pub quiz style geography trivia wrong too. Maybe it's a conspiracy so we can kick folk out the country  |

I got a few right but that's because I'm a bit of a history buff but none of it struck me as relevant to living in the UK today

I think that's probably because it isn't, Lesley. IMO, the very idea of a UK citizenship test is nothing more than a mindless bit of Right-wing crap, intended to pump up Nationalistic (read: anti-foreigner) feelings among pea-brained Little-Englanders. Very Daily Wail, or Daily Excresence.  |
