I doubt that applies to New World winemakers. True, I think. But I do wish that more New World wine makers would pander to British taste for French wines. I rather like some Argentinian Chardonnay that could pass as Burgundy. I would prefer to drink such a wine from the Commonwealth or even Chile. To us oldies the 'Argies' are still an enemy. Every time I sip a Malbec from Argentina I shall spare a wee thought for little Englanders' tears.

Mrs S's brother was in the RAF during the Falklands war, helping repatriate the dead service personnel, but drinks the Argentinian Malbec without any qualms

Like the Spanish they don’t like having a bunch of foreigners camped on their doorstep. I gather the conscript invaders were shocked to find that they weren’t seen as liberators and the islanders didn’t want to be “liberated”.

There's a more recent instance of that. Sadly the bigger the liberator, the more damage and misery they inflict. Iraq, Somalia and Libya have been thoroughly liberated. High fives all around.

Probably several shared values at least.

All gone quiet on the migrant issue at the moment especially about The barge and Rwanda, maybe the government is managed to stop the boats crossing the channel

All gone quiet on the migrant issue at the moment especially about The barge and Rwanda, maybe the government is managed to stop the boats crossing the channel It was within the last fortnight that it was in the news AGAIN for grim reasons. Given the short time it's been in use, having a death and serious concerns regarding overcrowding, it seems fair to call it an unmitigated disaster.
