" The Taylor Wessing Photo Portrait Prize returns to the Gallery in St Martin’s Place after three years." I didn't know it had moved! If you were thinking of entering - it's too late, "The call for entries has now closed." But I suppose those of you who live nearby can drop in on the exhibition and vote for the People's Pick Winners. Anyway, thought I'd start a thread ready for when it's been judged and people want to praise/moan about the entries/winner.

Far too smiley for the TW, Kate. Though possibly ginger enough...

It's not just the depressing image to be created, because you would also have to create a meaningful (?) supporting document to explain your motivation/personal journey/troubled life/etc,. I would be tempted to write something completely fictitious and see what happened.

Are you of the opinion that previous successful images have all had a truthful narrative What I have noticed is that previous winners have apparently submitted a portfolio of images along with the usual 'deep' narrative showing how unusual the images are and the person behind them. East European or war zone preferred.

And the shortlist has been announced. Same link as before, just scroll down a bit. More cheerful this year. Perhaps some were accidently entered for the wrong competition.

Oh dear, what a shame. I had the very one ready to enter. Oh how I lie... ap sarah 2 by Kate Ferris, on Flickr It need the obligatory supporting essay. Perhaps a loved pet has just been run over by a 10 year old boy driving a stolen 4x4 at 150 mph whilst using his smartphone to make a video of his journey towards manhood, and the pet was last seen flattened on the front of the vehicle just before it crashed into a family walking on the pavement. Although, in this scenario, the TW judges would probably me much more impressed by a picture of the young driver with his head through the windscreen, and an essay about his inner turmoil and how society has failed him and hence is completely to blame.

I reckon they pick the shortlist based on how much money has been passed over with entries. Ha!

I reckon they pick the shortlist based on how much money has been passed over with entries. Ha! Controversial! (But I'd often wondered)
