Also like above, now closed. No banks at all in our village now. Barclays by Nigel G, on Flickr Makes me sad and mad. They make huge profits and reward their shareholders, but stick up two fingers to their customers on the streets. In this age of on-line banking and shopping etc, those who haven't kept up either by choice or circumstances have been disenfranchised. I personally feel I'm past my use-by date.

I know what you mean. personally it doesn't affect me, I can't remember the last time I went in one but my mum, who actually does online banking, often goes into her bank in the next town along if she has an issue. There still must be a few like her.
Barclays have also (or are) closed their branch in the next town. This thread has at least reminded me, I have to make a visit to the bank here in Spain as they need our passport copies again. Here, my nearest Sabadell bank won't deal with it as it isn't my branch, so we have to drive about 20-30 mins or so to our branch which is ridiculous. It is my branch in name only. They are a bit backward here for somethings, though at least the branch I shall be visiting are very multi lingual.

Banks of the Dee at Chester from the bottom corner of Edgar's field. It is on the way I sometimes walk into town and I never quite manage to get a good picture. This is a joiner. Clipped the top of a tree which is annoying. I shouldn't do these hand-held, they never line uo horizontally and end up too tightly cropped. Another bit of river Dee bank, further downstream. The Roodee (oldest racecourse in Britain I think) behind is built on "old banks". This part of the river was a busy port in Roman times but it all silted up. There is no port at all now despite the effort to canalise the river in the early 1700s. 274A0854.jpg by Pete, on Flickr I haven't got a shot of what remains of a wharf behind New Crane Street. This is looking across the river from there and is at the very top of the artificial path. It was a very wet day and I went out taking pictures for an APForum theme I think. This was in my AP folder on Flickr. DSCF0035.jpg by Pete, on Flickr

Just looking through LR for Bank and of course it comes up with South Bank. Here's a shot with a bit of both South and North Bank on it - I'd guess from Hungerford Bridge. Dated 2013. IMG_0046.jpg by Pete, on Flickr

It can do! Access is poor so there is a hundred yards of footpath or so from which you can see the river. Otherwise overgrowth severely blocks the view. Upstream there is a built area "The Groves" which is popular and extends maybe 1/2 a mile. I guess it would originally have been a promenade. The water level at the Groves is maintained by a weir, downstream is tidal. DSCF0735.jpg by Pete, on Flickr Upstream of the Groves the northern side of the river is housing then farmland with no access. The southern side, "The Meadows", is flood plain. Although it is public land it is quite boring to walk along. In an attempt to prevent erosion (mostly wash from tour boats that do a short river ride) much of the bank has been fenced off and willow scrub encouraged to grow so the view of the river is much reduced. The below was an attempt (Feb 2022) to recreate a view to show part of the change. I ought to have another go but it will have to wait until I have scanned more negatives from that time. Joining the banks. To complete a Chester picture, looking upriver from Edgar's field - from something like 50 yds away from where the downstream pictures were taken some few posts ago. It is a very low tide. I was interested in the debris under the bridge but I could find no record of there ever being a ford there. The river was a defence in Roman times and, as said before, navigable. The bridge (parts of) is very old (14th century) although it has been rebuilt several times. DSCF3290.jpg by Pete, on Flickr
