Aye. One of my customers looks a bit like a barbie doll and after splitting with her fella answered the door dripping wet and wearing nothing but a towel. How do you know that she wore nothing but a towel unless she removed it? Your instinct takes over, plus a towel is more seductive that a string vest and baggy y-fronts

My most mortifying occasion was when I heard the postman knock and I had to quickly put on a short light dressing gown to go to the door. He had gone down the steps from the flat and I chased down to get the parcel. He said he would carry it up for me, so I gaily started up the steps again with him a couple of steps behind (my behind). I was a sweet 24 year old. I wondered if my blushes reached all my cheeks! He didn't press any harassment charges against me! Ha!

I worked with union reps who were more in touch with what was going on than were some of their managers. Usually they had a better idea of what would work and definitely wanted the best for customers and workers. On the other hand some managers wanted only the best for the company. I found that shortsighted. I find that remark very strange. I've worked in many companies (I've mentioned that I was a consultant) and I've never come across any manager that thought that upsetting the staff or customer was the correct course of action. Of course I've been in situations where I've had to make folk redundant, for example, and that's not fun - but it was only after a great deal of thought and consideration of options. If I had not done that then there was a danger of insolvency which would have damaged the rest of the staff and the customers even more.
Allow another union story. I was employed (not as a consultant) in a company that ran a piecework scheme for want of a better description. I came to the conclusion that if I tweaked the scheme then the guys would be paid a little more for the same work but have the option to earn quite a bit more for extra work. My objective was to increase factory output which would allow lower prices (by spreading overhead over more product - NOT by screwing the workers). That would benefit the workers, the customer and the company. The union wouldn't even listen! I offered to run the old and new schemes side by side and pay whichever paid more - no dice. Pure obstructionism all the way. I'll end the story here just adding that it eventually got solved.

I didn't put that very well. The managers who only wanted what was best for the company were trying to tell me that I should lead a supplier to produce a product that was best for us rather than encouraging flexibility to make it commercially attractive. That said manager was nothing to do with the project was unimportant. Fortunately the supplier and I were in agreement that what was best for us was a reliable, flexible product that would sell. Any product designed specifically for one customer, without the flexibility to match other customers' needs wasn't going to be around very long.
On that project a union rep mentioned that he couldn't support something that cost jobs. I pointed out that relieving admin staff of the need to, basically, transcribe data into a computer was good for them because they could then do the job for which we had originally employed them.
