Tagliatelle au funghi with salad. It was like something out of a 1980's Edinburgh trattoria except I used fresh parmesan to avoid the lingering aroma of vomit that the dried stuff used to have.

Zuccini fritters a la Turka No, we do ours with courgettes. I'll get my coat... There are at least as many mucver recipes as there are cooks in Turkey. Ours last night were our own take, not least because we were using up bits and pieces as we're away for a long weekend. Plenty of dill, quite a bit of mint, plenty of Turkish chilli flakes - they're the key.

Got some chicken thighs marinating in a tandoori mix with homemade garlic and ginger paste. This will be the first serious test of the air fryer. I did a couple of chicken legs last night with deep fried chips, but that was just snacking,

After the last 22 hours or so when I ended up waiting in the Royal London A&E with a friend, which made me a bit upset because it reminded me of being there with Dave, got home just after 9 and fell into bed, woke up around 5, needed to do some shopping by the time everything was done dinner today was a Ginsters Cornish pasty, marrowfat peas and boiled spuds with a tub of trifle to follow

Rather a lot of gyoza. For the princely sum of £5 I enjoyed 12 gyoza, a bowl of rice, pickles and soup. It's going to be culture shock when I get home.

Last evening it was beef stew and herby dumplings, this lunchtime it will be piri-piri chicken breast fillet with roasted veg.

About October we bought a big delivery from Wild and Game - remember the speculation of shortages of some foods Nov/Dec? We are now running down the last of it so we can get another load of frozen stuff from somewhere. Last night was Slow cookered diced Venison with dumplings, mash and peas. Leftovers for lunch today. Tonight was Papadrelle with oriental marinaded pheasant breasts with a store cupboard sauce - included sweetcorn and peanut butter along with a load of other stuff chucked in. Very tasty.

Avocado homemade guacamole with smoked salmon (I swear they put the left overs in a fancy packet to fool me), boiled egg and brioche.
It was OK but as I alluded to above, the smoked salmon slices were very stringy.

Triple cooked chips with a couple of chicken Kiev's amazing raid on Co Op tonight, chips, 3 packs of 2 Kiev's and 4 big chicken breasts for £8.60 all reduced to clear obviously and apart from one pack of Kiev's and the chips now in the freezer. I cannot put anything else in there after some good results recently like an unsmoked gammon joint for £1.50, a huge joint of topside for £6.70, 3 huge packs of minced beef for £1.50 a time plus tons of burgers, sausages, fish, steak, 3 quiches, a couple of steak pies and 2 joints of lamb along with various odds and ends like a few ready meals, some smoked haddock, cod in batter, paella, Quorn mince etc

Met up with some friends who moved from Edinburgh to Tokyo a few years ago. We all had Tsubame Grill's famous (arguable) original style hamburg 'steak', mine with a German black beer. Good combination. Dessert was a pumpkin caramel pudding.

We had fish and chips last night to celebrate a big job well done, and I added spam fritter for old times sake, must be 25-odd years since I had one last. There's something about the combination of that weird processed tang and thick crispy batter that renders the dubiously edible delicious.
