It was too hot today to have the oven on - we had fried cumberland sausages, with new potatoes, salad, gherkins and chutney.

Being lazy (the usual weekend thing of having a big lunch) dinner was fish fingers, triple cooked chips and marrowfat peas

Last night we had an odd combination of leftover garlicky roast veg in pasta with homemade burgers. It was a nicer combo than it sounds.

Did a chicken stir fry with noodles- local shop has this range of straight to wok noodles with mixed veg on special offer so I had the thick noodles and threw in some sweet corn, sliced red onion and some leek that needed used up- made a bit much but very nice so the rest of it went into my lunchbox and I can take it to work and pop it in the microwave for lunch

It is not a problem for me. I'm retired. Highly spiced, highly fartogenic really is a luxury to be enjoyed with like minded company.

Cauliflower cheese with lamb leg steaks, proper comfort food if you include the mashed potato

Tonight we went to Yoshinoya for quick and tasty sustenance after a busy day and lots of walking (estimated 18km). For those not in the know it's a very cheap chain restaurant that does beef (mostly) with rice and so on. From ordering to being served probably under 3 minutes. This was the quickest and busiest site we've been to, at a station one stop from Tokyo. Negi shio beef set (really thin sliced beef with a spring onion and salt sauce), a bowl of rice, a bowl of miso, and a wee salad, all for under ¥600. Last time I checked it was ¥160 to a pound, so really very good value. A couple of whisky highballs complimented it very well.

If you are going to talk about Japanese food much I may have to hurt you! I lived in Bahrain for a couple of years where there was an excellent - and I was assured by Japanese colleagues - genuine Japanese restaurant. Once introduced to it I ate there at least once a week when in town. I loved the food although I wasn't all that comfortable with the seating arrangements - bad for the digestion!
