I'm sure that process won't need much energy, surely? The pilot they are running is in Chile, IIRC, so they can use wind and solar energy instead of the dirty German electricity. At $40 a gallon it has a way to go before it is cheap enough for the masses though. Can't remember which source suggested the amount of energy required to make synthetic petrol was in the region of 4 or 5 more energy than might be required for an electric car to travel the same distance. Or summat like that....diesel was 7 times more.
