Have to say I’m really enjoying the RP I picked up. Besides football by 5d3 never sees use these days let alone all the other DSLR’s I have. Both my ef-M system and now this RP have truly spoilt me. Simply because of the real time exposure via the EVF. Never use the rear screens (all are folded away). The adapters for use with my EF/EF-S work flawlessly. But they do extend the lens which is starting to annoy me. I really fancy picking up the RF 70-200 F4 but the white colour totally puts me off. I won’t be able to use it when out with family as the damn thing will just attract attention. I gave up carrying my 70-300L for exactly this reason and purchased the black 70-300is ii Nano. Bliss, no one every looks over.
It would be great if canon would offer the 70-200f4L in black for us amateurs who don’t want the RF 24-240 “”6.3””!!
It’s almost as if canon deems amateurs as not worthy of L glass. They have denied 3rd party manufacturers otherwise I’d have waited for tamron to release their version. I’m blown away by the SP45mm it’s insanely sharp, their 70-200 G2 is supposedly magnificent.
So, canon won’t release licenses, won’t offer amateurs premium glass for normal everyday use, but want us to move fully over to the R line??
I can’t even envisage where I would feel comfortable using a white lens in public, let alone going on holiday…. It would attract so much attention.
Anybody else feel the same? I know there are a few who love to be seen posing in public with white lenses, love to appear as tho they are pro - we’ve all seen them😂. But most of us don’t.
Luckily I’ve not over invested in R yet, so could possibly move to a different brand. Seems a shame tho as I love canon colours, love the menu layout etc etc.
But I won’t buy slow lenses, nor will I buy white.

Just a quick thought, would a camouflage lens cover be acceptable, assuming they are available for your lens(es)?

Had to google RP because I had no idea what you were on about - thought perhaps something to with the Queen's English. (I assume this will become the King's English now?) Anyway, as I don't have the disposable income required to leap about from one camera to the next at will, I can only suggest that you contact Canon and ask them why they insist on selling their product the way they do. Or paint your lens black. Seems like a bit of a non-problem to me.

No one has ever paid the slightest attention to me carrying/using a white Canon telephoto whether a 70-200 zoom, a 100-400 mm zoom, a 300 mm or a 400 mm prime. A 500 F4 attracts comments about its size but never about its colour. With lens hood attached it is huge and lenses of that size are not commonly seen.

As above you can get camo covers for birding etc. or just wrap duck tape or similar around it.

I'd think one smothered in duct tape, as well as not working very well, would stand out exceptionally well to humans. The birds couldn't care less. A lens is no threat. Leave a bare one alone (e.g. on a tripod) and they'll perch on it.

They will think I'm going to nick that camera but in reality they're more likely to snatch your mobile phone or your wife's handbag.

The white paint is, allegedly, and IIRC, to minimise thermal expansion of the chassis so the glass elements maintain proper alignment in a wider range of conditions, hence it being an L series thing.

Well anything that looks as though it is being used in a covert manner will, the fact that the user has tried to conceal it will bring suspicion that they are hiding something.

I have the EF 70-200 F4L, can't say it's ever noticeably attracted attention when I'm using it... Other than those of us in the know how many people are even aware or care that white = expensive lens? I suppose it's possible that some non-togs may well remember that they often see pro's using them at big events but even if they think you might be a professional what's it matter?
I think you're seeing an issue where none exists...
Personally I've never been convinced about the 'reason' for white lenses, Nikon's equivalents are black and they seem to produce equally good results in the same circumstances.
