So what did you buy, and is it any good. This is genuine question. I reckon any opinion here is likely to have validity. Nothing yet - I've put out some pretty hefty 'Mother's Day' hints to the kids and if they take me up on them I'll have some amazon vouchers I can use. Will update!

Better still they will buy the grinder and some upmarket beans.

Better still they will buy the grinder and some upmarket beans. Noooo. It's not that I'm a control freak or anything but I much prefer picking things out for myself and I haven't quite decided what I'm looking for yet! However, I now have the aforementioned vouchers so I'm going to be spending today choosing a grinder. Beans are already taken care of!

Just looked at the price of that thing
Think I'll stick to tea.
Or Lamb's Navy rum.

In my defence, IBS has been so awful lately that I have given up alcohol which was having an almost immediate affect on me, whereas coffee doesn't seem to. The kids paid for most of this and even if they hadn't I reckon a couple of months not buying wine/gin would have been about the same. Now I get to start every day with something that makes me very happy indeed. Well worth it I reckon!

Visited a household at the weekend that had a "bean to cup" machine for which they paid £600. The coffee was great but not £540 better than my £60 machine produces.

Mick When I was in John Lewis the other day, I stopped to look at the coffee machines such as those as I was passing by (not in the market for a machine). Some eye watering prices.

More seriously, sorry to hear about the IBS Kath. Hope it improves soon.

Ah, I was, but I can multi-task! IBS is already much better after approx. 6 weeks of no alcohol. I don't think I was drinking all *that* much before but clearly enough to have a detrimental effect and I don't miss it nearly enough to bother going back and suffering the consequences. (I don't have a coffee machine...just another thing to clean and besides the grinder has taken up all the space. I just use a coffee dripper thing or a cafetiere. Mainly the coffee dripper because again, it's less faff on the clean up side of things.) I have worked out that grinding beans for '2 cups', using my favourite mug to measure out the water and using a pour/wait/pour process, gives me a most satisfactory start to the day even without any kind of multi-tasking ;-)
