View AttachmentNothing special, just the roadside verge outside my house. A nice show of daffs and snowdrops. Cue someone pulling them up saying they are invasive foreign species! There was a lovely clump of daffs in a wee copse on my walk this afternoon but not enough light to shoot them without a tripod.  |

I guess this is broadly "everyday" although I've never noticed before today and it is mainly of springtime. I was editing today's photos when a blackcap alighted on the hedge and I got an opportunity shot through the double glazing.  DSCF1715.jpg by Pete, on Flickr Looking at this closely, I had never realised before that each hawthorn spike protected two leaf buds. I found this quite amazing. I'd recognised the function of the spikes as plant protection but hadn't realised their association with new growth. I decided this image is evidence enough and declined to go get a ladder and do some macro ! |
