They usually have good stuff on display, and as well as the gallery they have some scopes set up and a reading area for material from their extensive library. Well worth a visit.

Been there once, the visit was only spoiled slightly by the defference and do not disturb staff mentality re the visiting royalty - Chris Packham.

Been trying years to get one of these little fellas, then when you list expect him he turns up. Have to say they really are handsome birds DSC_5663-9-9 by Stephen Hayto, on Flickr

Saw an osprey hovering like a giant mutant kestrel once. Over the Clyde just outside Abington.

Kingfishers are stunning, Britain doesn't deserve anything that gorgeous. I didn't realise they could hover either until I popped into the local nature reserve on Dec 31st 2020, and had a 10-minute viewing of one fishing all to myself. No camera, of course, I just dropped in on the way home from the allotment. But in those dark days it made me feel that there was non-locomotive light at the end of the tunnel.

Today's outing a bit disappointing. However, this is a snipe - bearing in mind the effective focal length is 900 mm this is pushing it a bit. DSCF5902.jpg by Pete, on Flickr as a very hard crop DSCF5904.jpg by Pete, on Flickr
