It's not looking likely unfortunately. She's 10 years old and anything more than a lap of the block has her limping and struggling to get up later. She was about the easiest dog to walk too....just ran about doing her own thing and wouldn't bother anybody.

It is an excellent painkiller, and though it won't cure the problem, it may alleviate symptoms. I assume the owner can't afford the cruciate surgery?

Their last dog got got put down because one of them didn't want a 3 legged dog so I think the rest of the family are very keen to avoid any risk of a repeat.

Saw a Tawny Owl in the middle of the road yesterday. Had a broken wing I think. Another motorist tried to grab it but it disappeared into the undergrowth at the side of the road. Maybe this should be in WGYG thread. Made me quite sad.

On my ride home in the rain I had a lovely encounter with a short eared owl. Got as close as 30m or so. Gorgeous.

It looks as though the swifts have gone already. We've not seen one for several days, even now the weather has brightened up a bit. Hopefully our nesters reared their brood successfully and they'll all be back next year. After 2020, when swifts felt like my link to freedom, my love for them has only grown and to have them as houseguests was the fulfillment of a dream.
Farewell fighter boys, screaming jet jockeys tearing through the garden like Spifires in for the kill, blue skies and safe winds to you all. Its been wonderful hosting you, haste ye back!
