Tufted duck. We have them by the score and don't bother photographing the. In our local country park lake tufted ducks are as common as mallards. There's not much meat on them but I am not supposed to know that.

I think he's referring to the last photo. It's probably a red crested pochard or hybrid of.

I was scratching my head over what this one was. By dint of much searching it is an immature male mallard. Must get a better book than the RSPB guide. DSCF4993.jpg by Pete, on Flickr

Another not very challenging picture - a grey heron being dainty on the shore line at Conwy and waiting for the tide to turn. There were several and all moving about in "hunt" mode so I guess there must be some expectation of a feed coming in. DSCF4991.jpg by Pete, on Flickr

From Sunday. I was after butterflies not birds but this blackbird was being amusing collecting worms, must be raising a late brood still (need to check the book for breeding periods) as they usually eat what they catch more or less straight away. DSCF4938.jpg by Pete, on Flickr

Is the shell guide still good? The Shell Guide to the Birds of Britain And Ireland amzn.eu/d/ePkd2bnNo idea. The other pocket size one that I've seen is Collins guide.

Is the shell guide still good? The Shell Guide to the Birds of Britain And Ireland amzn.eu/d/ePkd2bnNo idea. The other pocket size one that I've seen is Collins guide. It used to be popular with the keen birders in my family anyway. The quick web search I did last night suggested it was only available used and mostly about £3.

Typical [wasted] effort. The usual view [through binoculars] of a reed warbler for the very attentive. It was down in cover and didn't want to come out an be seen. Absolutely dead out there this afternoon. DSCF5013.jpg by Pete, on Flickr

Overheated female blackbird, probably juvenile. She was sunbathing a bit, going into shade fir a few minutes and so forth. She was still there 2 hours later so definitely "chilling in the sunshine". DSCF5003.jpg by Pete, on Flickr

I was happy to see the other day, my hoodie feeding a youngster. They definitely don't mind me being near.

Good shots. Are you mainly using the Fuji these days? Thanks. Yes it (X-H2S + 150-600) is lighter and has more reach (and more pixels) than my Canon birding kit, although I might still decide to keep going with Canon. I got the 5Ds out with macro and ring-flash for the "buds" daily theme which was both fun but also reminded me how much Canon kit I've got, so an 'R' body - maybe the next R5 iteration - is still on the cards for when the DSLRs break. I have also been using the very light Fujis for general photography, they are so convenient. I got a s/h 16-80 lens which is a perfect all rounder on the X-E2 and the X100V is small enough to go in a pocket.
