Reto Ultra Wide and Slim, under £35. 22mm lens, fixed focus/shutter speed. Load with HP5+ etc. and snap snap snap. Question is, is it worth buying and taking to Japan alongside other cameras, or will it distract from using the others? Planning on taking my Sony with 16-50 (so c24mm - does the Reto UWS really add much?), and Pentax K2 with 35mm, 50mm & 135mm lenses, others are TBC. If I do get the Reto the Rollei B35 would likely stay at home. Toying with taking my FM10 and 50/1.4 as well to offer opportunity a secondary filmstock. Part of me really wants to take the 6x12 Holga pinhole too. I. CAN'T. MAKE. UP. MY. MIND.

No, I think something new will be a distraction. However, you may want to balance that against the fact that, in your position, I would be sticking to a single camera system.

Thinking out loud... On the plus side, it'd be a good use of my last roll of Natura 1600. On the negative, would need to order by tomorrow to ensure it arrives in time. Or I could just get one in Japan, they are almost to the penny the same price at Yodobashi Camera. Plus. I really like having a plastic camera for those times when the weather means I don't want to get my digital or precious old SLR out.

I voted "Yes" - just because I've got far too many cameras and lenses, and I'd welcome some more people to share the shame of being in that situation.
In my defence..... at least I'm not the worst offender! (Adrian! )
Edit to add: Having just looked at another thread, I'm beginning to think that @john Farrell might be a match for Adrian!!)

Nick possibly has more than both of them together

I suspect I'll get one at some point myself. Would I get one for such a trip? Perhaps.

Take the bare minimum, photographic and clothes. Take only what fits in a carry on bag. Come back similarly lightly loaded but send back a hefty load of unaccompanied stuff in secure containers. I am way out of date, however such arrangements for air travel worked well when I did three 24 month tours in Nairobi many years ago. My employer paid all expenses.

The tl;dr response to that would be "lol"! Just the stuff we're taking over as gifts for family and friends wouldn't fit in carry on. Personally I can travel very light but my wife isn't as talented in that regard.

Why not take one camera ? (Playing devil’s advocate)

(Playing devil’s advocate) Hell no. If I'm out and about for a day one camera and one lens is fine, but on a trip like this I prefer to take several and then each day pick the best options. E.g. if the weather is poor a toy camera is coming along, if we are just with the family indoors then digital only, etc. I've not got ADHD but I do like options.

K2 uses 2x those wee LR44 or something like that and the Sony battery has more than enough capacity for a day's use before charging.
