I'm another who prefers a magazine to be made from paper and not viewed on a computer screen I too prefer to read magazines on paper but, I don’t buy them because they aren’t attractive. I only get AP because I have a subscription, without it I wouldn’t bother. Unfortunately we aren’t the target audience, to keep the “magazine” alive it needs to appeal to a much younger audience. One that doesn’t particularly value paper. Whether we like it or not something has to change. The forum was actually keeping things going, get rid of the interaction with the customer and you risk losing him/her. In 5 years time it is likely that paper magazines will be a rarity, I wouldn’t like to predict the probability of AP being one of the survivors.

Whilst I agree with those of you who dislike viewing on monitors (me too) I love using my phone and occasionally my partners old iPad (she got a newer version for Christmas) but I still prefer my phone.
As for magazines, think they are poor value for money. Whatever the subject is being reviewed, you can be pretty certain it’s online too. I doubt I’ll ever buy a magazine again, which incidentally has just made me think my 15yr old son has never purchased nor asked for a magazine AFAIK.
Somewhere in my loft there’s a stash of special edition AP’s from the mid 90’s. There’s also a copy of a magazine from the mid 80’s that did a review of the old Canon EOS RT. The front cover has a glamour shot of a model in a swimming costume. I stumbled upon the stash whilst searching the loft last year, it was a reminder why I stopped buying magazines.

AP 140th anniversary edition arrived today. Yep it’s been around since a long time ago. I canceled my subscription and read it online. Our son gets it included in his online order for something on Apple.and I tend to read every edition and have had a couple of letters published complaining about stuff I am due another one shortly. It to me is the best available online and the fact it’s free makes me happy.

TBH- I have been amazed for years that a weekly photo mag still survives. Also, I cannot recall the last time I felt remotely tempted to buy a copy.

TBH- I have been amazed for years that a weekly photo mag still survives. Also, I cannot recall the last time I felt remotely tempted to buy a copy. The last APs I bought were a handful from a local charity shop at 10p each. I've not looked at them as yet, they are there for when I just feel like sitting down with them.

I know I don’t actually buy a copy but I love reading it and Don’t say it’s demise anytime soon, I stopped my subscription in August, I can’t say I miss AP, there wasn’t much of interest to me. All the processing “how to…” was based on Photoshop, which I don’t use, and none of the equipment reviews covered anything I was remotely likely to buy. That doesn’t leave much, I rather like the technical bits but once a month wasn’t enough. I don’t want to see AP go but I want more content than just Photoshop and mirrorless.

That’s true they’re both the main characters of many articles but whilst you and I may never be buying mirrorless that’s where the market is going. As for Photoshop I’ve decided life’s to short to get to grips with it. The program is fantastic, far more complex than my tiny brain can handle but millions of people do use it and they will buy AP. I enjoy reading it every week and sometimes I look back at previous issues on my iPad. Imagine how big the pile of magazines would be.I think the online ones start for me in 2021 so 150 or so magazines would be a decent lump.
