I envy those who make do with just one. I have a reoccurring pipe dream that if ever my luck came in and I had loads of money. I would dump virtually everything I own and start again from scratch , but this time I would only own 1, there would be no multiples.
Use it up Wear it out Make it do Or do without
That would become my mantra.
A simple life sounds amazing.

FWIW I do actually own a film camera. My fathers Retina IIC. I first used it at my (little) big sisters graduation, complete failure my sister did not trust me to load film so she got a lassie on the photo counter at Boots to load the film she had just bought. It was not loaded "properly". I am not convinced the lassie knew you had to pull the film and wrap it round the spool. I did use it successfully on a 3 week motorbike holiday round europe circa 1980 and a holiday to New England circa 1988. Not stuck a film in it since. It's time the camera had an overhaul. Unfortunately, Chris Sherlock retired last year...

Is there anybody on the forum who has just 'a' camera? I know I don't. I just tried counting them but stopped when I ran out of fingers, so just shy of a dozen! A camera, is it permitted to own just one? I have at least 10 and my wife has half a dozen or so.

I am very happy to have two of them, a Nikon F5 and a second Nikon F5.
I can see why you'd want to retain a couple of film cameras... but why have you got two elephants? If ever I need assistance with self defence I am well prepared, have you ever argued with an elephant?

I've never even had a discussion with one.

Actually hers, and used extensively. Her current kit is a D300/MB-D10, D500/MB-D17, AF-S 16-85 f3.5-f4.5 and AF-S 70-200 f2.8 VR II. Generally she takes more photographs than I do.

I've never even had a discussion with one. Many years ago, in Lake Manyara National Park (Tanzania) I came face to face with a bull Elephant, fortunately he was a happy elephant and didn't take any notice of us. I wouldn't advise getting that close to an African Elephant in the wild.

Anyway they tend to win arguments simply by standing tall and looking big (they are tall and big).

I obviously don't need anything like the number of cameras I've got, but still, some are pretty specialised and there's simply no one camera that could do everything I want, or even need, a camera to do. I don't want to have to make it do or do without, although use it up and wear it out would be great. And indeed I've done that with some cameras over the years - it's both satisfying and saddening when you reach the end of the road with a trusted tool.

Is there anybody on the forum who has just 'a' camera? I know I don't. I just tried counting them but stopped when I ran out of fingers, so just shy of a dozen! Every decent camera I've owned since getting my first (East German) SLR in 1973 has later been part-exchanged against another, or sold, to help finance its purchase. However, I am now only on my fourth camera since then, and have only ever replaced a camera to get some specific feature that was not on the previous one. 1973 - Exakta RTL1000, when being sold off by the trade as a discontinued model (a Praktika, but with an Exakta bayonet mount) 1980 - Pentax MX (about half the size of the Exakta, and much better handling - a lovely camera, purchased by a friend of my father's in Hong Kong when on a business trip for about half the UK price because that brand was handled by Rank in the UK with an extortionate markup) 2007 - Pentax K10 10 megapixel DSLR (because Kodachrome was no longer available, and I could use my MX lenses - and again purchased as a discontinued model - good AP review) 2012 - Pentax K5 16 megapixel DSLR (to get the Sony sensor for much better high ASA work, much better handling and again purchased as a discontinued model - good AP review) I have no plans to replace the K5.

Best way to have a discussion with one is via a trunk call. Well done, Nick! I'd been wondering how to shoehorn that one into my previous post, but couldn't work out how to do it.

Anyway they tend to win arguments simply by standing tall and looking big (they are tall and big).
And they have the additional advantage that - if there's a lack of cogency in their argument - they can just flatten you.
